Well after setting up an internet coaching structure for the 10 CGF Performance squad players and then adding a number of individual Czech players who have private coaching form Keith - it's been all go over the net!
It's proving a great success with players sending Keith regular swing files via the GASP E Book system and having their lesson returned with written, verbal and interactive demo as required.
Should any player out there wish to try it out just contact Keith and he'll send you instructions on how to send the swing files and register with GASP ..... the cost is just £25.00 for a lesson and you'll be getting advice from a PGA Master Professional & European Tour coach.
With the February to early April period being so busy Keith is finding it difficult to allocate as much time to coaching at his two UK venues as would be usual. He's also continuing with the PGA regional seminars he began last year and with a lesson diary just about full to capacity he apologises to all concerned if he cannot get to see them until April.
Please e mail or call to discuss any coaching requirements and Keith can agree some suggestions.
Early January & February Keith spent 3 days coaching indoors in Prague with the Czech Performance and Development Squad players.
Indoor facilities in the Czech Republic are first class - large indoor arenas with up to 20 driving range bays 50-60 metres long to see the initial ball-flight, short game areas and putting greens combine together with numerous numbers of swing simulators so that the Czech golfers can play matches and winter leagues until the better weather arrives. Most also have fitness and health centres and/or extensive indoor tennis courts. In Prague there can be up to 15 golf coaches working at some centres.
Mid February sees the top 3 Czech national men & ladies visit Turkey in preparation for the World Team championships played later in the year - the men will arrive first and play 4 practice rounds over the Sultan and Faldo courses. The ladies will play both courses at The Gloria Golf Resort.
Keith will be there to support their play and help develop course management strategies as well as plotting a detailed course planner/chart identifying target areas and danger zones as well as a detailed greens planner.
In March the Performance squad of 10 players will return to Costa Ballena for a weeks training with Keith. This year they'll be joined by Klara Spilkova from the Ladies European tour who is keen to check her swing out with Keith before her season gets too busy.
Sadly on December 29th 2011 my friend and golfing colleague, the wise, incredibly knowledgeable and top golf physical coach Ramsey McMaster passed away at the age of just 49 years old.
I have not seen or worked with Ramsey in recent years but we have been in contact and had hoped to get together again soon.
I first met him during my days as EGU National Coach and encouraged him to visit Woodhall Spa to help and advise our players and coaches. He was regarded as one of the very top golfing physiologists and had worked with and had studied literally many thousands of players. Based in Melbourne, Australia he advised and worked with organisations, amateurs and professionals - many off the European & US Tours - all around the world - his knowledge was truly amazing but most of all he was a great character and person.
Ramsey we will all miss you and our heart felt thoughts go out to your wife Caroline and your 2 children.
Keith is curently talking to 'old' colleagues at one of the UK's top golfing publications about rejoining their coaching advisory team -- watch this space and hopefully some positive and detailed information will be available soon.
On January 25th Keith will be joined by his 'old' EGU colleague Nigel Furniss to deliver a day long seminar based on the key aspects of Performance Golf.
Information can be obtained via the PGA training office at The Belfry.
Throughout the winter and spring period Keith will be visiting many of the County Golf Partnership coaches groups to deliver a 3 hour seminar discussing his past history & experiences; his swing theories and preferences; to illustrate Case Studies; and to discuss with the coaches his thoughts on the various swing models that are currently being coached throughout the World.
So far coaches and officials from at least 7 counties have attended and Keith has enjoyed some lively discussion and debate on many topics. Some key points he's keen to emphasise to the other coaches is that there isn't one model for the swing - the never has been and it's likely there never will be! But coaches have to be consistent with their lesson delivery and therefore it's important to be clear in what you believe in as a coach and to trust that knowledge and preference. Variation is not only possible within the coaches swing preferences, it's an absolute necessity as a coach has to adapt to the individual golfers capabilites and needs.
The next series of seminars is planned for early March.
The Czech Golf Federation have finalised an agreement for all the Performance Squad players to work closer with Keith under his Internet Coaching scheme. They will send Keith regular monthly swing files so that he can 'cast his eye' over their progress and ensure that swing developments are adhered to and are making positive progress.
Swing comments and suggestions will be returned to the players who will then communicate with their own coaches to make sure everyone is in agreement. Some players are not working with personal coaches in the Czech Republic but consider Keith their coach so the internet coaching is merely an extension of that working relationship.
CGF camps have been arranged for Turkey in February (as part of the teams preparation for the World Amateur Team Championships in October) and for Costa Ballena in Spain in March where final preparations can made for the imminent 2012 season.
Nathan Kimsey is having a busy off season at the moment! Not only is he commited to a more intensive EGU squad training programme as a member of the England A group but he has been working more intensively on a one to one basis with Keith. Since September they've worked with Trackman and Sam Putt Lab to get detailed information about swing and putting stroke club delivery and on the squad training he's worked on the physical and mental assessment and development aspects in Hertfordshire and Loughbough University.
The technical development aspects of the individual and squad programmes remain close related with Nathan, Keith and EGU squad coach Alan Thompson communicating regularly to maintain consistency and effective delivery.
Nathan represents the EGU by playing in the Orange Bowl Junior Championships, Florida at the end of December and a couple of months later will return to the States for another important event. He will also hope to slip in one or two early season European amateur championships.
2011 was an excellent year for Nathan - he achieved all but one of his seasonal goals and targets, winning individually, representing England and lowering his stroke averages .... 2012 will offer some tougher tests as he moves more into senior golf but he is well positioned to make the most of his capabilities.
Klara Spilkova played solidly in the last LET Tour event of 2011 - the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters - and guarenteed her Tour card for 2012 by finishing the Rankings in 78th place.
She now intends to enjoy the Christmas and New Year period, to catch up on some important school work earlier in the New Year and to meet up with Keith the w/c January 9th in Prague to talk about her past season and plans for 2012 ... she will join the CGF Performance squad on a training camp in March at Costa Ballena, Spain to do some pratice and training with Keith.
It was her birthday a few weeks ago - just 17 years old - so it's a solid well done to Klara - her 'part time' Tour appearances may have been limited by school but it's still congratulations on a great 2011.
