What a great if eventful Ryder Cup it was on this ocassion.
The Celtic Manor course was in magnificent condition for the match and despite the weather during the event it allowed the players to show off their wonderful skills and to play matches that entertained and excited golfing fans throughout the World.
A great result for Europe, showing the strength of the PGA European Tour but perhaps more importantly illustrating the current strength and depth of the younger players but European and from the USA.
Personal note: I was delighted to visit the Celtic Manor during the Ryder Cup. It's always a pleasure and somewhat poignant to return there, remembering the 31/2 years I spent there between 1995-98 as the Head Professional. During my time there we officially opened and began the practical development of what has become Wales greatest golfing location.
Watching the players at the Ryder Cup it was clear to me that the trend has moved towards the younger players, who are physically and mentally more adept than ever before. Watching Lee Westwood & Luke Donald reminded me of the English Golf Union training programme in the late 1980's & 1990's ...... both players were on the programme but who might have envisaged that they would become so highly ranked World players - Lee now currently World No 1 ...... fantastic and as national training programmes throughout the World get better and better the standard of player will become even more impressive!
