WATC Turkey

Well two weeks in the hot Turkish sunshine proved to have it's up's and down's for the Czech Republic national men's and ladies golf teams but overall the two weeks showed very positive progress for the game and Czech golfers on the World stage.

The first week was the Ladies team championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy - the Czech team of Kate Ruzickova, Karolina Vlckova and Lucie Heinnerova played really well and after 69 holes were in 11th position in a field of 56 competing teams ---- a weak final few holes dropped them back to 15th position with an overall 144 hole score of +4 - but this was an historic result for a Czech team at this level so it was smiles all around !!

In the men's event for the Eisenhower Trophy the team got off to a bad first day start with a score of +9 from which they struggled to move up the field significantly despite  +2 and -2 second and third round scores. Unfortunately due to thunder and lightening the event was shortened to only 54 holes which meant one less round to improve on the overall team score. A final score of +9 was 40th position from 76 teams - disappointing as the team of Ondrej Leiser, Simon Zach & Vitek Novak did not play near to their real capabilites on the week.

Czech golfers are now shooting scores well under par in European and World events which is a strong indication of a real jump forwards in their capabilities and mental attitude .... the future is bright and soon we may have others joining Klara Spilkova on the mens and ladies European tours.
